Right then,
time for a bit of detective work. There has been a thread recently on
the Tri-ang Collectors Facebook Group on the early Rovex train Set.
During this discussion we started to find out about the original very
rare Princess with Roller pick-ups. This preceded the more commonly
known Plunger Princess.
The question was
asked, how many Roller princesses are known to exist now? Two, with
great provenance, were sold By SAS Auctions for £1,600 each plus fees.
These are well documented and the pick-ups shown in the photos. The
earliest one had plain brass rollers and the later version had plated
rollers. Slightly earlier, a Roller Pricess was apparently sold on eBay.
Unfortunately I have no record of this or photos but many people
apparently saw this sale so it is thought that that was a genuine 3rd
model. There is an
excellent article on the two SAS models by Nicholas Oddy in the Train
Collector Magazine issue 57 and an earlier article by Pat Hammond in the
Train Collector Magazine issue 37. Nicholas has kindly agreed for me to
reproduce his article
HERE Unfortunately I have
no record of who took the individual photos so I am not able to credit
them but I thank them
